Being a sidekick has always kind of had a stigma about it. Yeah, we always knew they were there, but the hero was the main attraction.
But in Star Wars, sidekicks get celebrity status. From Ahsoka to Chewbacca, we love a kickbutt sidekick, and Star Wars has time and time again given us just that. So today, I wanna hear from you: which Star Wars character would you want at your side? Small disclaimer--I realize that some of these characters aren't sidekicks proper, but they might still be someone that you'd like as your right-hand man. Would you rather have independent, strong-willed (possibly still alive) Ahsoka? Or a clever, loyal Captain Rex? How about a strong, faithful walking carpet--I mean--Chewbacca? Or a ruthless apprentice like Ventress? Or maybe you just prefer a reliable, versatile droid. Pick your favorite below!

Magic is a centerpiece of fantasy. Whether one is born with it or acquires it through sorcery or some other object, it and the genre are inseparable. Two of the most popular ways to incorporate magic into a story is via a magic wand or a magic ring. But which one would you want? Perhaps you're a simple person. You don't want to bother spending hours and hours poring over the daunting magic wand user manual. Plus, you hate the idea of carrying around that hideous wand everywhere--you like fashion-forward magic. The magic ring is for you. Though rings are typically limited in that they usually only have one or two abilities, you can pick out the perfect one for you at the local Jared (20% percent off every Valentine's!), from invisibility rings to rings that transport you across dimensions. But maybe you're dissatisfied with the confines of one or two abilities that rings afford. Plus, you could care less about the size and look of the wand--you're the type who prefers functionality over appearance. The magic wand is for you. Each one is different, so you'll have to memorize all the spells, from "Bibbity boppity boo" to "Alakazam!" But, with unmatched flexibility, the magic wand is the perfect option for those seeking to expand their magical knowledge. Which one will you choose? Vote in the poll below and let me know what you voted in the comments below! We've heard a lot of talk about colonizing Mars in the past year. It all sounds dreamy, right? You drop $200,000 dollars for a ticket on a one-way flight to beautiful, red Mars, where you can start your life again while still enjoying the benefits of the newly constructed Mars-tropolis. Others picture it like living in a rover for several months and eating only potatoes (now where have I heard that before?). Which way do you picture it? Would you live on Mars? Vote in today's poll and we'll see which choice is most popular: What did you vote and why? I want to hear you in the comments below!
It's a topic that has divided Star Wars fans for decades: the light side v. the dark side. Some are mesmerized by the uniform gray, red, black, and white colors of the Empire and the Sith; others are drawn to the underdog, ragtag, and a little disorderly Rebel Alliance (not to mention those beautiful X-Wings). Do you prefer the screaming engine of a departing TIE fighter or the whoosh of a Y-Wing jumping into hyperspace? Are you the type who would prefer your headquarters to be on a remote tropical planet, or do you fancy a cosmopolitan metropolis? Do you stick to protocol, or do what you have to do to get the mission done? Today, you'll have to evaluate yourself and choose the Rebel Alliance or the Empire. Imagine yourself in the Star Wars universe. Your home is a natural wonderland, rich with precious metals and other valuable resources some systems only dream of. But one day, the imposing shadow of a Star Destroyer envelops your small town. Before you know it, Stormtroopers are on the ground, with the barrels of their guns in your face. What do you do? Defect? Or grab whatever you can and fight? Click your choice below. What did you vote for? Let me know in the comments below!
We've all been there. You're just walking down the street and BAM! A goblin jumps out of the alley and strikes! Or maybe a rathtar has rolled around the corner, tentacles flying, desperately trying to gobble you up. No? Well, that could happen, and you should be prepared for when it does happen. So today, to prepare you for the next Klingon raid, I'm taking a poll to see what you would use to defend yourself against an attacker. Your choices are the Vulcan Nerve Pinch (quick and effective), the lightsaber (powerful and elegant), a wizard staff (versatile as long as you know your spells and provides a quick getaway), and ray shields (requires some previous setup, but great against blasters). Click on what you would use below, and let me know what you voted in the comments below! It's time for another poll! This week, I want to know...if you could have any pet, what would it be? Cats, dogs, birds, and fish are common pets, while snakes and chinchillas are more exotic options. But in the world of sci-fi/fantasy, so many more choices open up. I'm featuring creatures from Star Trek, Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Jurassic World (a vegetarian one, mind). Click on the one you would want, and comment what you voted! It's time for another poll! New York, Paris, London. All cherished cities here on our beloved Earth. But, let's say the earth is done for (as it is in many sci-fi movies)--you have to have another place you can go, right? That's what this poll is all about: preparing you for the apocalypse. Would you like a peaceful retreat nestled in the Misty Mountains, or a bustling city that is literally the size of a planet? You get to choose! I have to admit, you have a hard choice this week, because honestly, I could live in every one of these! Let's face it, cars are boring. You have to admit at some point you've watched a sci-fi or fantasy movie with some kind of super awesome vehicle and said, "I want one of those!" We dream about someday in the distant future owning one of these things for ourselves. We all have been there. I know I have. Today's poll is your chance to weigh in on your favorite vehicle from a sci-fi/fantasy movie. Use the arrows to navigate the options, and press the heart to cast your vote! "No, I am your father." "Beam me up, Scotty." "E.T. phone home." We all know these quotes. When someone says them, we immediately make a connection with a science fiction movie. If you really think about it, sci-fi films have had influence on everything from our favorite music to that snazzy dance move you saw somebody do on YouTube. These little things that make their way into pop culture unite many of us as science fiction fans. So today, I want to know: what's your favorite quote from a sci-fi movie? Obviously, I can't include them all here, but I'll get in some of the more popular ones. |
