The moment my foot hits the scorching asphalt on a broiling summer day, a gust of cool wind blows from the north. I breathe it in. The gust is strong and violent, but for some strange reason, I feel a peace when it strokes my face. I glance up at the towering trees above me. Much unlike the calm I feel inside, I see chaos as the mighty trees bow to the force of the even mightier wind. The frail leaves of the trees cling desperately to the trees' arms, the source of their life. They persist, until the wind relents a few moments later.
Ten seconds of silence pass. Suddenly, the wind returns; this time, it comes like a fog, quietly and softly. Again I feel that inexplicable peace. I lift my eyes once more to see that the trees must feel it now, too. Their leaves no longer must cleave to their branches--instead, they dance in the kindly breeze. Their trunks are not commanded into submission--rather, they sway happily back and forth to the shush of the wind until once again all nature is silent, anxious to see what the ever-changing wind may do next.
